Bitesize Heron courses are a new and innovative series of practical online programmes which cater to the growing demand for micro-learning. Aimed at aspiring or practicing managers within all areas of the business, these virtual bitesize course concentrate on key topics and include lots of practical guides and tools to support our colleagues in becoming the best managers.
We boast a strong team of Training Academy Managers who are responsible for the development of new store managers through on-the-job training within our retail stores. They attend a Train the Trainer session and they organise and deliver a high standard of training and support to new store managers. They are our expert store managers and currently represent 10% of store managers within the business.
Our new Ignite Programme is aimed to help and support our warehouse colleagues to progress within the business and gain the necessary skills to become part of the multi-skilled team. This is a 15-month blended learning apprenticeship, consisting of live workshops, virtual training and e-learning as well as completing practical tasks and assessments.
Heron’s Future Flyers programme encourages employees within retail stores to develop their management skills to work towards becoming a Store Manager of the future. The success rate of delegates successfully being promoted since undertaking/completing the course is at 70%, which we are very proud of.
Offering a blended learning approach, including workshops, virtual bitesize courses, practical theory assessments and an opportunity to spend up to seven days working in the role they aspire to advance to.
The programme covers core soft skills such as Communication, Teambuilding, Adaptability, Interpersonal skills, and motivation providing all the skills needed for effective leadership.
Our apprentices receive a rotation across all functions within our Store Support Centre to enable their fuller understanding of how dynamic our business is and provides a 360 degree understanding of how food retail works. They also receive apprenticeship courses to upskill and develop their knowledge and skills as they progress within the business within an area that suits their development.
